Our History

The Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) was established in 1963. It was originally called the Post Office Savings Bank and was administered within the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Services of South Africa and Bechuanaland. Later in the same year, South Africa handed the Post Office Savings Bank to the Bechuanaland Postal Services Department under the Ministry of Works and Communications. In 1982, the Post Office Savings Bank was transferred to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and was upgraded to a full specialised Government Department with the title - the Botswana Savings Bank. In 1992, Parliament passed the Botswana Savings Bank Act, which established the BSB as an independent, national financial institution, wholly owned by Government. The purpose of BSB is to provide avenues for saving by the small saver and to provide financial services for all the people of Botswana under the supervision of the Bank of Botswana. The services of BSB are provided countrywide through special Savings Bank counters at the Postal Services network. Services provided by the Botswana Savings Bank are savings and loans.

Gone are the days when the Keolopile family in Ngware village lived under adverse poverty and squalor. This wave of new life was a result of Christmas donations presented by the Botswana Savings Bank during the festive season. This noble idea is expected to propel the family from poverty status into good living and self-sustenance. The needy Ngware group is a family of orphans who prior to receiving a house donated by BSB were living a nomadic life. They had never all stayed together under one roof.

  • 2004BSB Launches New Identity

BSB adopted a new Corporate Identity which consisted of the new logo, orange and enhanced blue colours as well as the new motto – Growing Your Wealth. We are all aware that the banking industry in Botswana is experiencing an unprecedented change which BSB has to boldly face. It is therefore believed that this preferred logo is a strong sharp distinct feature which would easily differentiate BSB from other financial institutions. It is expected to accommodate emerging and changing consumer attitudes in the banking sector as it is not tied to any historical or current situations.
