BSB formally adopted North East Youth Empowerment Against Crime Project. An initiative to engage youth in projects that are geared to fight Poverty, Crime and HIV Aids. North East Youth Empowerment Against Crime and HIV Aids project targets young people residing in rural areas as they are more disadvantaged than their peers in urban areas. It is spearheaded by the North East Tribal Administration in partnership with the community from various villages in North East District and Tshesebe Police Station.

The project is based on the premise that when young people are empowered, they can be responsible citizens of the country. Through the activities of the project it is anticipated that young people can realize the following;

  1. Acknowledge that they have or can create choices in their life.
  2. Be aware of the implication of their choices
  3. Make informed decisions freely and accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
  4. Acquire various skills through information sharing which include performing arts.

The project member villages are; Mabudzane, Jackalas No.2, Syvia, Themashanga, Tsamaya, Mowana, Tshesebe, Senyawe, Butale, Ramokgwebana, Kgari, Moroka, Jackalas No.1

The Bank’s involvement started in 2008 at the initial stage of the project formation. At this time around it was only Five (5) villages mainly; Mabudzane, Jackalas No.2, Syvia, Tsamaya and Themashanga. Focus was on building stability of the concept as well as growing membership base. There was a massive campaign to include additional eight villages as per above. With more villages now involved in the project, it is imperative to refocus and embark on projects that are more beneficial to the Youth.
