As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Employee Volunteerism dubbed ICare Employee Programme, Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) Francistown Branch donated school uniforms to disadvantaged Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School learners last Friday.

Under the ICare Employee Volunteer Programme, Botswana Savings Bank recognises the importance of involving its employees who are encouraged to participate on a voluntary basis as they are considered partners in helping to uplift those in the communities in which BSB has a presence. This is done through identifying worthy community projects to support.

The bank donated jerseys, shirts, trousers and dresses to a total of 49 students, 25 girls and 24 boys, a gesture that’s expected to improve their lives, boost confidence of those in need and restore their dignity.

Giving welcome remarks, Montsamaisa JSS teacher, Motlhagodi Moshokgo indicated that since the school opened in 1990, it has been posting impressive academic results.

“We’ve produced a lot of great minds who are currently serving the nation in different fields. Montsamaisa JSS is a big school in terms of members with a total of 859 learners compared to other primary schools like Phase 1V, Phatsimo, Jacaranda just to mention a few,” he said.

He further commended BSB for the kind gesture which he said will allow the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and not worry on how they look.

For his part, BSB Branch Manager Oabile Moloi pointed out that the Francistown Branch team came together to look for a project in the community that they could assist which led them to Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School.

Moloi further added that it is important for BSB to engage with the community within which it operates, to make a difference. This is what led to the Bank support to address the need.

“After the school informed us that they had students struggling to buy school uniform, we assessed and saw the need to assist. When a student is not dressed in proper school uniform, they develop low self-esteem, and it ends up affecting their academic performance. We are here to bring a smile to their faces,” said Moloi.
