Botswana Savings Bank recently handed- over a Classroom to Motswedi Junior Secondary School in Gaborone. The Classroom was built under the BSB Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. Following extensive consultation with the school, it was revealed that there was a shortage of classrooms in the School. This shortage of classrooms resulted in the school operating through a double shift system, that required some students to attend classes in the morning while others attended in the afternoon. BSB converted one of the outdoor teaching areas into an enclosed classroom.

The classroom was officially handed over to the School by Ms Esther Tuelo Lemo, Deputy Board Chairperson on behalf of BSB.
“Education is a key driver of sustainable development, as it empowers individuals and promotes economic growth. Our support demonstrates Botswana Savings Bank’s commitment to social development and improving the lives of individuals where BSB operates”, said Ms Lemo.

The classroom is named “Lecha Classroom” a symbol of BSB’s commitment to community outreach programmes: “Re le ba BSB re le fa mpho e gore le e dirise mme le gore e le solofele molemo, we celebrate this milestone together and look forward to the bright future,” said Ms Lemo.

The School Headteacher , Ms Mpho Lesego, expressed gratitude towards BSB and said, Botswana Savings Bank should be commended for investing in Motswedi Junior Secondary School. “ Botswana Savings Bank’s investment in the education of our children is a beautiful thing. We will forever be grateful for the gesture. These are projects that improve the quality of life of citizens. We wish to end the double shift in the not-so-distant future”.

The official handover was graced by the Member of Parliament for Gaborone North – Honourable Mpho Balopi who commended BSB for ensuring that the delivery of such a valuable project to the community, which will indeed uplift their lives.
