Botswana Savings Bank donated a total of 1500 masks to various primary schools across the country in support of the COVID- 19 prevention.
The primary schools identified were in Serowe (Mannathoko Primary School), Mabeleapodi (Mabeleapodi Primary School), Hunhukwe (Hunhukwe Primary School), Bonwapitse village near Mahalapye (Bonwapitse Primary School), Matshelagabedi (Matshelagabedi Primary School) and Matsiloje (Matsiloje Primary School).

The project was initiated through the Banks Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the staff volunteer initiative called “I CARE”.

Giving back to the community in which we operate is key in building relationships and supporting communities in need. The various Branch Managers and their teams across the different BSB Branches spearheaded this project after noticing the need in the various schools. The mandatory requirement of masks in public and at schools is critical and BSB understands that some may not afford this very necessary item that is expected to reduce the risk of infection.

Speaking at one of the handover ceremonies in Mabeleapodi, BSB Serowe Branch Manager, Ms Kabelo Magosi said the bank saw the need to support the two Schools (Mabeleapodi and Mannathoko Primary Schools) after an assessment was made regarding schools within their reach.

Magosi said wearing a mask in public is one of the key preventative measures promoted by WHO and BSB is proud to have contributed towards the fight against the pandemic.

Mabeleapodi Primary School Head, Mr Alfred Ngwanabatho thanked BSB for the support, adding that the Face Masks would be given to pupils who came from less privileged families. Ngwanabatho also appreciated BSB for their generous gesture, saying the donation would go a long way at meeting the needs of the students.

At Mannathoko Primary School in Serowe, the School Head, Ms Gabobofane Mpotsang alluded that the Bank’s donation to the school showed BSB’s support of the community in the fight against COVID19. She encouraged pupils to wear the masks and take good care of them.
