Tuesday 5 April, 2022 marked the dawn of an exciting new era for Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) as the bank officially opened a new branch in Maun.
Located in the tourist town’s Old Mall, it brings BSB’s standalone outlets in the country to five, with further branches in Gaborone, Francistown, Molepolole and Palapye.
The wholly government owned bank also boast four co-branded branches with Botswana Post in Gaborone, Mahalapye, Hukuntsi and Serowe as well as two smart branches in Gumare and Kanye.
Officially opening the Maun branch, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Peggy Serame expressed pride at the strides and achievements BSB has made in its 30 years of existence.
the Minister added, “BSB provides financial solutions through its strategic partnership with Botswana Post, to extend into the greater parts of Botswana where there are limited banking facilities, primarily to take banking services to the unbanked, which goes to the low income population in remote areas.”
BSB banking services and products are delivered to the bank’s customers across 124 post offices counters. The bank also has a total of 16 Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in various locations throughout Botswana, including: Gaborone, Mahalapye, Serowe, Letlhakeng, Kang, Gabane, Bokaa, Palapye, Maun and Francistown.
“The bank aims to roll out more across the country, with particular focus on areas that do not have BSB representation. The ATMS are also VISA compliant and anyone who banks with other financial institutions can use them. This shows the bank’s commitment, its strategic role and its contribution towards financial inclusion and pioneering the savings culture in Botswana,” said Serame, noting these were some of the reasons BSB was voted the best savings bank in the country by Global Banking and Finance Review 2021.
The Minister also praised BSB for its active Corporate Social Responsibility policy, which is committed to supporting education, arts, social welfare and sports development in Botswana.
Meanwhile, in their efforts to take the organisation to the next level, BSB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nixon Marumoloa revealed the bank is embarking on a digital revolution.
“We will have internet banking, cell phone banking, bill payments and we will have new paying technologies,” Marumoloa declared proudly.
Others speakers at the ceremony included Batawana paramount chief regent, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi and North West District Council’s Deputy Chairperson, Lekonne Masoko.
“Batswana will benefit a lot from this bank because even their loans have low interest rates, so small businesses, including fisheries and basket making among others, have a chance to grow through BSB,” noted Moremi.
Similarly, Masoko expressed gratitude to BSB for its commitment in catering for the general masses by taking banking services to the many parts of the country where such services are limited.
