1. Supervisor, Short-Term Insurance Underwriter

Main Purpose of the Job

Reporting to Principal Officer, incumbent will be responsible for driving the organization’s Short-Term insurance product sales and key account management, create awareness of the organization’s offerings, cultivates leads with prospective clients, develops, and presents sales pitches to them and manages the client relationship to maximize customer lifetime value for the organisation.

3. Manager, Collections (Re-advertisement)

Main Purpose of the Job

Reporting to Director, Risk, incumbent will be responsible for managing the collection of outstanding credit repayments by proactively engaging customers with distressed credit facilities and developing mitigations to protect the organisation’s interests and maximise recoveries of accounts receivable, thereby minimising losses.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  1. Implement a risk-based approach to debt collection in order to maximise recovery of accounts receivable.
  2. Consult with Risk and Operations departments in order to lead the development of an organisational debt collection process and associated escalation triggers.
  3. Implement organisational debt collection processes.
  4. Develop and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement and third-party debt collectors.
  5. Oversee debt recovery communications to, and inquiries from, customers and handle sensitive or difficult customers (including discussions about account balances and payment issues).
  6. Ensure accurate records of steps taken to recover debts are maintained in accordance with organisational processes and procedures.
  7. Review all required legal documentation and commence the legal recovery process.
  8. Engage third parties as required (e.g. Judiciary, Law enforcement, third-party debt collectors).
  9. Issue instructions to third parties on behalf of the organisation and oversee collection process.
  10. Initiate court actions as required and draft court papers in accordance with Magistrate and High Court requirements.
  11. Initiate seizure of sureties and sundry assets as necessary and in accordance with organisational and legal processes and procedures.
  12. Oversee seizure of assets from delinquent debtors and liaise with procurement and deputy sheriffs to recoup debts in accordance with organisational and legal requirements.
  13. Prepare an excess report for use by management.
  14. Monitor the timely and accurate collection of customers’ accounts including making calls to customers for payment.
  15. Prepare accounts for legal enforcements including developing case summaries and obtaining evidence.


Experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Five (5) years’ of relevant experience in debt collection or related area (preferably with a financial institution) including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • A strong understanding of the legal processes for recovery of bad debts and accounts receivable is essential.


Educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Risk Management or equivalent

Reporting to the Head, ICT & MIS the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the security of the organisation’s physical infrastructure, applications, network and databases in order to protect the organisation, its customers and its business partners. The Manager, ITCS identifies and addresses vulnerabilities in the organisation’s hardware and software, monitors any attacks or intrusions and addresses them accordingly and creates firewalls and partitions to control the spread of any malware and/or unauthorised access.


Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Develop and ensure the implementation of appropriate IT and cyber security measures to protection information and data.
2. Constantly monitor network and information transmission, access, security and storage to ensure that appropriate protection measures are in place at all times.
3. Run cyber security tests randomly and in accordance with best practice protocols to protect the organisation, customers and business partners’ data and information.
4. Liaise with BCNET and other IT service providers regarding IT and cyber security matters to protect the organisation’s IT networks from potential attack.
5. Ensure the implementation of back up and disaster recovery protocols and protect the organisation and customer data at all times.
6. Investigate potential security breaches and initiate appropriate action.
7. Monitor developments in the IT and cyber security environment to ensure that the organisation’s systems and process adhere to industry best practice.



Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Cyber Security/Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Management Information system or equivalent.
• Additional qualifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Information System Security Professional, Certified Information Security Manager would be an added advantage.
• Five (5) years’ of relevant experience in cyber security (preferably in a bank or mass market financial institution) including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Develop and implement, in consultation with Director, Operations, a structure business model and associated business processes to drive the organisation’s insurance offerings.

6. Collaborate with senior management and Marketing Department to create and implement impactful marketing campaigns.
7. Oversee insurance operations, new hire training, business development efforts and provide ongoing support for sales and service.
8. Develop appropriate metrics for customer service delivery and monitor achievement of targets and adherence to service levels.
9. Collaborate with Head, MPR; Head, SCX and Head, PDDC to conduct competitor analysis, market research and customer needs analysis on an ongoing basis.
10. Ensure that all insurance related activities are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements and ensure that all sales agents have been appropriately certified to do so in accordance with all legal, regulatory and organisational guidelines.
11. Work with DO to ensure that Insurance division is appropriately resourced in order to maximise the organisation’s return on investment.
12. Work with supervisors to identify market growth/ cross-sell opportunities to increase product holdings and improved revenues.
13. Initiate, execute and manage marketing programmes and retention strategies in line with business objectives (premiums, commissions, product type and number of policies).


Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Insurance, Finance, Risk Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Strategic Management, or related area.
• Professional membership of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Insurance Institute of South Africa or equivalent is an added advantage.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Act as the organisation’s lead advisor on matters relating to legal probity and risk management to ensure that high standards exist in the discharge of the organisation’s functions.
2. Advise the Board and relevant internal stakeholders on the application of resources to minimise, monitor and control the probabilities and impact of threats or legal disputes and to maximise the realisation of business opportunities.
3. Oversee the Interpretation of legal information and devise and implement measures so that Legal Services are developed cost effectively to support operational and service policies, strategies, business plans and programs.
4. Develop and ensure the implementation of contracts, processes and procedures which follow the provisions of the Act and all other statutory requirements and legislation to protect the asset and rights of the organisation.
5. Establish and ensure the efficient implementation of procedures for the recovery of accounts receivable to minimise outstanding debtors and cost of recoveries of amounts due to the Bank.
6. Develop and deliver strategies for the delivery of high quality and cost-effective legal services to reduce costs, increase efficiency and maximise external income, as well as to strengthen the resilience of the legal services provided.
7. Act as lead advisor to the Board of Directors on matters relating to corporate governance in order to guarantee high standards exist in the discharge of the Bank’s functions.
8. Ensure that support services to elected Board Members are delivered to the highest quality and professional standards.
9. Oversee and ensure that proper authorisation processes and corporate governance policies are followed, and responsibilities effectively discharged, so that the Bank meets both statutory requirements and best practice standards.
10. Act as the custodian of the organisation’s legal documents.
11. Keep abreast of legal and corporate governance developments and ensure that the organisation operates in accordance with best practice.

Oversee all legal actions the organisation is involved in and act for, and on behalf of, the organisation as counsel before the courts, legal committees, labour offices, boards and other judicial bodies or guide and supervise the actions of local or international external legal advisors on complex cases.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law and admitted to practice in Botswana.

The Head, IA provides a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of organisational controls and governance processes in order to ensure compliance with internal control systems and procedures to protect the assets of the Bank and the interests of its customers.


Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Establish and ensure the implementation of Internal Audit policies, strategies and procedures in accordance with best practice (including financial, operational and administrative processes and procedures).
2. Establish and ensure the implementation of operational policies and programmes which will optimise the utilisation of resources and delivery quality audit of services to all functions, including financial and operational audits.
3. Develop and ensure the implementation of appropriate codes of conduct, and, in conjunction with other Departments, ensure appropriate controls are put in place to provide the necessary procedural checks and balances necessary to protect the organisation from non-compliance and potential criminal activities.
4. Draw a risk-based annual audit plan for approval by the Board Audit and Finance Committee.
5. Plan and schedule audit assignments by assessing and prioritising financial and operational activities, ensuring that high risk areas are addressed and that such risks are minimised through audit recommendations made, to improve the soundness and effectiveness of the internal control systems.
6. Undertake audits and prepare audit reports which highlight significant weaknesses with the internal control system and advises on the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information.
7. Develop and present constructive corrective action plans to Management and the Board Audit and Finance committee to rectify weaknesses identified during audits.
8. Review the internal control systems established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans, procedures, laws and regulations that could have significant impact on operations and report on whether the organisation is in compliance.
9. Review the means of safeguarding assets, physical, financial or otherwise, and where appropriate, verifying the existence of such assets.
10. Review operations and programmes to ascertain whether results are consistent with the established goals and objectives and whether the operations are being carried out as planned.
11. Determine the adequacy and effectiveness of systems of internal controls and determine whether the records are kept systematically to enable easy accessibility of information.
12. Review the planning, design, development, implementation and operation of major projects including computer-based systems.
13. Conduct periodic audits of the ICT division and makes post installation evaluations of major data-processing systems and review the process used for planning and organising the information systems activity as well as the processes for monitoring that activity.
14. Perform special reviews for instances of fraud, error, and impropriety and provide Management with advice on preventive measures and deterrents of fraud.
15. Evaluate and assess the effect of significant operational changes on internal controls.
16. Provide quarterly reports to the Board Audit and Finance Committee on significant audit findings and on the status of the implementation of previous audit recommendations.
17. Provide reasonable assurance to the Board on the adequacy of systems and processes of risk management and corporate governance by reviewing them and providing constructive criticism as required.
18. Liaise with External Auditors and ensure that External Auditors have access to such records as they deem necessary to carry out their work and, together with the CFO, assist in resolving Audit queries.

• Membership of an internationally recognised audit or accounting institution (e.g. IIA, CIA, ACCA, CIMA) or a Master’s degree in Internal Audit and Management
